This article will be about how a gradual but impactful mindset shift occurred, and how it completely changed how I view the world, and thus my life. It goes without saying that how you think will greatly affect how you operate in this world, so your beliefs and ideologies dictate your actions by a whole lot. Thus, we must carefully curate what we absorb and turn into our own beliefs system or else we might live life with other people’s ideas and ways of doing things.
Back when I was younger, 5 years ago, my mind was malleable, or gullible you could say, to the external sources of information. Because of this, I went along with whatever people said, I just didn’t had to think much. However, living like this will lead to many different problems, one of which was the aforementioned, living how others wants you to, but not how I wanted to. So as you could imagine, I had my fair share of regrets.
Tagging along other friends on long gaming session was the epitome of “fun” for us, at least that’s what I thought so back then. Not to say those times were not fun, we had great memories, but it simply wasn’t fulfilling, at all. Thinking back now, I could’ve used that time spent doing way more productive activities, adopting way better habits and thus having a slightly different life than now. However, this was not the case.
Hedonism reigned supreme throughout my early teens, as it was normal, to have fun, live life, and play around to let time pass on its own.
Reality kicks in once you’ve realised that time passed can never be retrieved, and that’s just how it is. I had a long period of regret and wanting to relive that time wasted because I regretted how I carried myself throughout those 3 long but quick years of school. That was when change occurred, and the first thing that changed was my mindset. My beliefs and ideas on how to live life changed, because reality was that my status of being a care-free high school student was coming to an end very soon.
From hedonistic habits, I slowly developed a disciplined life, changed my routines and behaviours, my hobbies and my interests. I quit gaming, went outdoors more often and picked up weights. This was pivotal for me.
